One thing my students really enjoyed this year was an assignment where we took a speech given by Augustus Caesar where he boasted of all the things he accomplished as emperor, and they had to take one accomplishment and translate his words using only emojis and symbols. It is a great way to get them thinking about primary sources from the 1st century AD and rewording it with a medium they use daily!
I had the kids post them in a shared document without the words from the speech (just the emojis) and we played a guessing game to see which accomplishment their emoji was bragging about.
